Aspire Academy student-athlete Hassan Waly, alongside playing partner Spain's Javier Bolumar, has won their second consecutive under-18 FIP (International Padel Federation) Promises title.
The duo lifted the FIP Promises Athleticans II title in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, to add to their victory in Portugal 10 days earlier.
FIP Promises Tour is FIP’s tournament series for various age groups from under-12 to under-18, designed to develop young players through high-level international competition.
Hassan Waly and his partner dropped just two games in the opening two rounds as they beat two Egyptian pairs, including the number 5 seeds.
In the semi-finals, they overcame the second seeds, Max Bendel of South Africa and Spain’s Martin Sales Araguete, 6-2, 6-1.
Their toughest challenge came in the finals as they edged past the number 3 seeds, 6-4 and 7-6.
Hassan Waly will now return to Qatar to continue his regular training schedule at Aspire Academy. Javier Bolumar will join him on 4 May as they prepare to compete at the FIP Promises Dubai II in the UAE, which begins three days later.
They are also set to play at the FIP Promises Badajoz, in Spain, in June.
While Hassan Waly was playing in Egypt, Aspire Academy was continuing its search for the future stars of Qatar padel with a tournament on the Academy’s courts.
The hugely successful event attracted 31 teams, featuring Aspire Academy student-athletes and local players, competing across four age categories: under-10s, under-12s, under-14s and under-16s.
Organising and hosting events for local players is a key part of Aspire Academy’s commitment to identifying future sporting talent in Qatar and being at the forefront of developing padel in the country.
