STRONG RESULTS FOR ASPIRE SQUASH PLAYERS IN PRAGUE

20 Jan 2020

Prague, 20 January 2020. From January 16 to 19, Aspire Academy's squash team competed in the Czech Junior Open, one of the major events on the European Junior Circuit, featuring many of the top juniors from all over the world.

Aspire's star performer was Yousef Essam Farag, who won the under 15 event, dropping only one game on his way to victory, where he cruised to victory against the European number 4, Dimitriy Scherbakov, 11-6 11-1 11-6. Also in the U15 category, Salem Al Malki put in several impressive performances on route to a 6th place finish, his highest ever, picking up victories over the European number 13 and 8 along the way. These results will certainly improve his current European ranking of 26 and show that he is capable of reaching the top 10.

In the U19 event, 17-year-old Waleed Zaman finished a highly credible 9th position, his best ever finish in a major event. Waleed played excellent squash throughout the event, losing only once to eventual champion Ben Smith from England.

In the U17 category Mohammed Ouda finished in 11th place, but showed himself capable of finishing higher, only narrowly losing 3-2 to eventual 3rd place finisher, Karim Farag from Czech Republic. Also in the U17 event, Ibrahim Darwish was another Aspire player to achieve his highest ever finish in a major, finishing in 17th position. Ibrahim’s only defeat in the tournament was a very close 3-1 loss to number two seed and European number four, Lazlo Godde from France. Not wanting to be outdone by his cousin Ibrahim, Yousef Al Kubaisi also finished in 17th position, but in the U15 category. This was yet another best ever finishing position in what was one of the Aspire squash program’s most successful ever tournaments.
