MEDALS AND RECORDS FOR ASPIRE ACADEMY STUDENT-ATHLETES AND GRADUATE AT ARAB SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Abu Dhabi - There were medals and records for Aspire Academy student-athletes and a graduate at the 6th Arab Swimming Championships in Abu Dhabi.

The event attracted 140 male and female swimmers from 16 Arab countries.

Mohamed Mahmoud, who graduated from Aspire in 2022, claimed a total of seven medals for the Qatari team as well as setting several new national records.

He won two individual gold medals in the 50m butterfly and 50m freestyle as well as two silvers in the 200m individual medley and the 100m freestyle. He also managed to set new Qatari national records in all four events.

His other medals came as part of three relays as Qatar won gold in the 4 x 100m medley and 4 x 100m freestyle events along with a bronze in the 4 x 200m freestyle race.

Student-athletes Abdalla Al Ghamry and Ahmad Diab were part of the three relay teams as well and will return to Aspire Academy with three medals each.

Part-time athlete Tamim Muhammad was part of the team that won medals in the 4 x 100m medley and freestyle relays.

Tamim Muhammad also won the gold medal in the 100m butterfly and a bronze in the 50m backstroke, setting a new national record at the same time.

There was also a bronze medal for 16-year-old Aziz Ismail Jelany in the 100m butterfly behind Tamim  Muhammad. The youngster could well have won more medals if he had not suffered from a slight illness.

Student-athletes Saif Alburshaid (Grade 12) and Hamza Shalan (Grade 10) were also part of the Qatar team chosen by the Qatar Swimming Federation at the championships and will have gained valuable experience of competing against swimmers from around the region.

Bronze in 100m butterfly

Abdalla Al Ghamry (Grade 11):

Gold as part of 4 x 100m medley relay swimming backstroke

Gold as part of 4x 100m freestyle relay team

Bronze as part of 4 x 200m freestyle relay team

Ahmed Diab (Grade 11):

Gold as part of 4 x 100m medley relay swimming freestyle

Gold as part of 4 x 100m freestyle relay

Bronze as part of 4 x 200m freestyle relay team
