ASPIRE’S FARAG AND TEAM-MATES IMPRESS AT THE SWISS JUNIOR OPEN SQUASH

08 Dec 2022

Aspire Academy’s students produced some impressive displays at the recent Swiss Junior Open squash event.

The standout performance came from Yousef Farag as he finished runner-up in the under-19 category while three others claimed top-six places.

17-year-old Farag’s impressive run included a win over European number three Lazlo Godde of France in the second round. He followed that up with a victory over current World Junior Champion Rowan Damming of the Netherlands in the semi-finals.

Farag eventually lost out to European number six David Bernet of Switzerland in the final.

Also in the under-19’s Salem Al-Malki finished fifth, his highest ever finish at a major European event.

Meanwhile Aspire Academy grade 7 students Omar Farag and Talal Al Badr both performed well at their first major tournament, finishing fifth and sixth respectively in the under-13’s.

In the under-17’s Khalid Al -Hammadi also played very well to reach his highest ever finish of 14th.

The future also looks bright with all the Aspire students, apart from Al Badr, eligible to compete in the same age categories next year.
