Participants of OCA training camp officially welcomed

Doha, 2 September 2014. On Tuesday morning Asia’s most talented young athletes at the age of 16 and 17, that are competing in the long jump or middle distance disciplines, gathered in the auditorium of Aspire Academy to be officially welcomed to the two-week-long camp co-hosted by the Olympic Council of Asia and Aspire Academy in  September. Ivan Bravo, Director General of Aspire Academy, was the first one who addressed the audience and welcomed the young athletes. “It is a great opportunity for these young athletes, because they will meet each other many times in the future and I wish that these two weeks will allow them to grow in their sports and in their character.” “I see here the future of athletics in Asia. This camp is going to be remembered because some of the faces in the audience will represent their countries in the future at events like Asian and World Championships as well as at Olympic Games”, Dahlan Al-Hamad, President of the Asian Athletics Association, commented on the promising future of the young athletes that were nominated by their respective national Olympic committees to participate at the OCA training camp. Vahid Kardany, representative of the Olympic Council of Asia, also remembered the start of this series of camps in 2009 and stressed the good results of former participants at sport events like the recent Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing. “This camp will add a lot of technical values to the future careers of these young athletes and we want to thank Aspire Academy for the opportunity to use these fantastic facilities, we want to thank the coaches for their commitment and everyone else who is involved in this camp in Doha.”
