ASPIRE Applied Research Program

The focus of the ASPIRE Applied Research Program is to increase the capacity for applied research across the diverse disciplines that operate within ASPIRES’s Sports Science, Sport, Education and ASPIRE Active directorates. In addition to ‘in-house’ research, the Program is the vehicle for negotiation with potential external collaborators, as well as for the promotion of ASPIRE’s innovative achievements.

A key component of the ASPIRE Applied Research Program's activity will be the formation of collaborative arrangements that provide ASPIRE with increased access to expertise and other research resources. As such, the ASPIRE Research Program welcomes external collaborators who can demonstrate technology or innovation that will have a direct performance outcome for ASPIRE student-athletes. Central to these collaborative arrangements will be the implementation of a visiting researcher scheme, whereby leading

international researchers will be invited to spend time at ASPIRE, collaborating on applied research projects with the Academy's staff.

The ASPIRE Research Program will also incorporate a Post-Graduate Scholarship Program, which will aim to support the development of promising young sports scientists, by giving them the opportunity to work closely with ASPIRE programs in an ‘applied’ setting. In coordinating the scheme, the Program will work closely with both local and international universities and the relevant sporting bodies to ensure the successful candidates have the academic credentials, as well as the ability to operate as part of a high performance sports services team.
