Doha, 9 November 2017. In course of the current stay of the Czech football national team in Doha, a delegation of Czech football officials, including the 2nd Vice President of the Football Association of the Czech Republic, Mr. Roman Berbr and the FACA General Secretary Mr. Rudolf Repka, was taken on a guided tour through Aspire Academy on Thursday.
“We could see that everyone in Qatar is eager in sports and it is truly impressive what they have developed so far in terms of infrastructure and sports,” said Repka, who saw the Czech football national team defeat 2018 FIFA World Cup participant Iceland 2-1 in Al-Duhail Stadium on Wednesday evening. “The weather here is great, much better than in Europe and we are very happy about the chance to be here to play against teams like Iceland and Qatar. Also, the training opportunities at Aspire Academy are fantastic.”
The delegation was impressed about the things the Academy had to offer and how the staff is focused on developing Qatar’s future sports and football stars. “We have a very similar model in the Czech Republic, where we develop young players in an academy and combine football with their school education. Judging from all the efforts that are happening here, I am sure that Qatar will have a great team in 2022 and that it will represent the country well at the World Cup.”
On Saturday, November 11, the Czech Republic is going to face Qatar in an international friendly at Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium at 7:30pm.
