|
The game played in the presence of Ghana minister of youth and sports
Friday 11th September 2009, Doha - Qatar: A combined ASPIRE Football team of 1992 born and 1993 born student athletes has performed pretty well in a friendly game last night against the Ghanaian U-20 Black Satellites, who are on a two weeks training camp at the academy, beating them 2-1 in the presence of Hon. Abdul- Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, Minister Ghanaian of Youth and Sports, Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi President of The Ghana Football Association and members of the GFA , who are in a three days visit to Doha, many ASPIRE managers and staff, and a quite interesting number of Ghanaian residents in Qatar.
The ASPIRE boys, who are playing their first game in the season after their return from summer camps and annual vacation, did really a good job and show their skills in front of a well organized and strong team, the black satellites, who are heading to Egypt next week to battle for the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup, after a two weeks training at ASPIRE Academy.
The game was a bit balanced, and we didn’t feel any big difference between our boys and their Ghanaian opponents, moreover, ASPIRE team was taking the lead in many parts of the game, and scored two goals that make the Ghanaian players and staff in difficult moments before they reduce the score to 2-1 .
The match saw the first appearance of ASPIRE Ghanaian Student John Benson under the colors of his home country national team. Benson said with a lot of joy commenting on this:” I am excitingly happy tonight to play for my home country national team, and more than excited to have my first match here in ASPIRE Against my friends and colleagues of ASPIRE. It is a moment in time for me tonight. Thanks ASPIRE. Thanks Qatar.”
From his side, Ghana U-20 Coach SELLAS TETTEH said very satisfied about the game regardless the result. He declared after the match:” this is our first friendly game since we arrived to Doha. In general I am quite satisfied about the way the boys played; the result was not of much importance for us as we are mostly concerned about homogeneity in the group. ASPIRE team surprised us with the nice way they played. It is really a good team of the future.”
ASPIRE Football head coach Michael Browne declared:” we are a very young team, and almost our boys are 4 years younger than the Ghana team, but we have done a very good performance both on the field and through the score. It is a good start for our boys to kick off the season since we are back from summer camps and vacation and we didn’t even start our training sessions, so it is a great job by our boys”.
As stated before, the game was attended by Hon. Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo, minister Ghanaian of Youth and Sports who declared:” it was a good game. I think the audience has enjoyed the performance of both our boys and that of ASPIRE. Once thank ASPIRE for all what we see and the warm welcome. Warm thanks to Qatar and to his Highness the Emir and princes and sheikhs for the hospitality and nice and warm welcome.”
