Student Affairs

All student-athletes are expected to follow the ASPIRE Code of Conduct. ASPIRE’s student affairs staff is responsible for supervision of all student-athletes during school hours.

Automobiles. ASPIRE provides transportation to and from the Academy to all student-athletes because it is the safest policy, given the heavy Doha traffic and the lack of a fully mature judgment on the part of young drivers. A student-athlete is not permitted to drive or bring a car to ASPIRE. Young drivers should not be tempted to transport their friends in their automobiles or see a conveniently parked car as an opportunity to take a quick trip to the shopping mall. Parents need to trust that their son will be in school or at training while they are at ASPIRE, not in a car outside the Academy.

Boundaries. Once student-athletes enter the Academy in the morning, they must remain on the immediate premises under the direct supervision of Student-Athlete Administrators, coaches and teachers. Student-athletes leaving the Academy for family reasons, medical appointments or other permissible purposes must sign in and out so the Academy is always aware of their locations. Whenever they leave the Academy, they are accompanied by an ASPIRE coach or Student-Athlete Administrator, unless arrangements have been made to release the student into the care of his parent. It is a serious violation of ASPIRE rules for a student-athlete to leave the Academy without authorization.

Care of Books and Sports Equipment. ASPIRE provides all books, study guides, sports shoes, apparel and equipment that are required. In some cases, student-athletes may be provided with computers. Student-athletes are expected to take care of these possessions and, if lost, are expected to pay for their replacement cost.

Television/Internet Usage. No student-athlete is permitted to watch any TV channels or access internet sites broadcasting any content deemed inappropriate to Qatari culture and religion. Television viewing and internet usage is permitted at designated times, in designated areas only, and is carefully supervised.

Computers. ASPIRE provides staff and student-athletes with IT equipment and access to communication systems, where required. Equipment and systems remain under control of ASPIRE. Student-athletes must ensure that usage of IT equipment and facilities does not damage ASPIRE interests or cause offence either inside or outside ASPIRE.

Cell Phone Usage. All cell phones are required to be off and/or in silent mode, stored in a backpack or otherwise out of sight, and inaccessible during the school day and during training. ASPIRE retains the right to confiscate a cell phone and return it to the student-athlete’s parents if the student-athlete disregards this regulation.

Dress and Grooming. Student-athletes must wear the specified ASPIRE apparel while at the Academy or representing the Academy. On trips, if the Chief of Mission specifies that casual apparel may be worn other than official ASPIRE apparel, such apparel shall be clean and properly worn. The following practices are prohibited:

  • Inappropriate language on t-shirts or other apparel
  • “Grunge”
  • Unusual hair styles
  • Walking barefoot or wearing improper dress in hotels or public areas
  • Wearing of neck and wrist accessories
  • Dressing in a female stereotypical way

Timeliness/Punctuality. Student-athletes are expected to be punctual for all sport, academic and other scheduled activities, and shall report in required dress and with required materials.
